About the Adventure

A multi-day hike in Croatia combines everything that makes the country exceptional — limestone mountains, Adriatic coastline, medieval hilltop fortresses, and traditional Dalmatian villages — into a single, immersive journey on foot. For hikers looking to experience Croatia beyond the beach, a guided walking holiday in Dalmatia is one of the most rewarding ways to explore the region.

The Malduk Adventures 7-Day Hiking Trip covers five guided trails across Mosor Mountain, Biokovo Nature Park, the Omiš hinterland, and Split's Marjan Hill. Based in Omiš for the full six nights, you hike each day from a single central base — no packing and unpacking every night.

The trip runs from spring through autumn and is designed for hikers of easy to intermediate fitness — no technical experience required. Daily hiking distances of 5–13 km make the itinerary accessible for active travellers without extreme fitness.

Why Dalmatia for a Multi-Day Hike?

Dalmatia is one of Croatia's most geographically dramatic regions, and one of the least explored on foot. The coastline sits below a near-continuous wall of limestone mountains — Mosor, Biokovo, and the Omiš hinterland — offering hikers elevation gain, sea views, and cultural depth within short distances of each other.

Trails combine mountain terrain with Adriatic panoramas — something few European hiking regions can match

The season runs April to November, with May–June and September–October offering the best temperatures for walking

Omiš serves as a single central base — no packing and moving hotels every night

Trails pass through traditional villages, vineyards, and historic fortifications rarely visited by standard tourists

The Itinerary

Spend an unforgettable week exploring Croatia's wild beauty and rich culture. Each day brings a new hiking adventure — from mountain ridges and coastal walks to wine tastings and village visits, all based in the seaside town of Omiš.

Our adventure begins at our Split meeting point, where our team will welcome you and help you settle into your pre-arranged accommodation in Omiš. After checking in, you are free to explore the town or rest before dinner. Omiš sits at the mouth of the Cetina River — a geography that creates a unique corridor of canyons, waterfalls, and rapids found nowhere else on the Dalmatian coast.

*Arrivals before 6 pm are recommended. Arrivals after 6 pm may be subject to a surcharge depending on your accommodation.

What Makes This Different from Other Croatia Hiking Tours

Most multi-day hiking tours in Croatia involve moving accommodation every night — a different hotel, a different location, constant repacking. The Malduk approach is deliberately different.

The hub-and-spoke model: guests stay in the same 3-star beachside accommodation in Omiš for the full six nights. Each morning, the guide transports the group to a different trailhead and returns them to Omiš in the afternoon. Hike in the morning, swim or explore town in the afternoon — without logistical stress.

Everything is included, not optional: six breakfasts, six dinners, all transport to trailheads, national park entry fees, trip insurance, and guided wine tasting. No hidden extras.

When to Go: Best Season for Hiking in Croatia

Late spring and early autumn offer the best conditions for hiking in Dalmatia — temperatures are cooler than peak summer, trails are less crowded, and the natural scenery is at its most vivid.

May & June ★ Best

Wildflowers on Biokovo, cool mornings, excellent visibility from the ridgelines. Books earliest.

September & October ★ Best

Lower temperatures, quieter trails, warm sea for afternoon swims. Equally popular with experienced hikers.

July & August — Viable

Possible but warm. Early morning starts recommended on exposed mountain sections.

Frequently Asked

Dalmatia — specifically the mountain ranges of Mosor and Biokovo above the coast between Split and Makarska — offers the best combination of accessible trails, Adriatic views, and cultural depth for a multi-day hiking holiday. The area is within 30–60 minutes of Split Airport and uses Omiš as a natural base.

No prior hiking experience is required for the Malduk Adventures trip. Trails are rated easy to moderate, with daily distances of 5–13 km. Good general fitness and sturdy footwear are the main requirements.

May, June, September, and October offer the best conditions — comfortable temperatures, lower crowds, and reliable weather. The Dalmatia coastal hiking season runs April through November.

The Malduk hiking holiday uses a hub-and-spoke model: guests stay in one 3-star beachside base in Omiš for the full six nights, with daily guided transport to different trailheads. This avoids the constant repacking typical of point-to-point trekking tours. We offer three accommodation options — 3★ rustic mountain house, 3★ beachside hotel, or 3★ apartments.

Essential items: lightweight hiking boots or trail shoes, moisture-wicking layers, sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), a 1.5–2L water bottle, and dry clothes for the evening. A small daypack is sufficient — there is no need for overnight camping gear. The Malduk team provides a full packing list on booking.

The Biokovo trail on the Malduk itinerary (Srida Sela to Ravna Vlaska) covers 7.5 km with 500 m elevation gain, rated moderate. Biokovo is described by Croatia's national tourism board as a mountain with "roots in the sea and head in the clouds" — its trails combine dramatic altitude with coastal views in a way few mountains in Europe can match.

Yes, but self-guided hiking in Dalmatia requires careful planning: trail marking varies, water sources on mountain routes are limited, and trailhead access requires a car or local transfer. A guided trip eliminates these logistics and adds local knowledge of hidden viewpoints, traditional stops, and cultural context.

We recommend Split Airport — it's under one hour from Omiš and has direct flights from most major European cities. Zadar Airport (~140 km) and Dubrovnik Airport (~230 km) are also options if Split isn't available from your departure city.

Yes, everyone is welcome. If you're booking as a solo traveller, a single supplement will apply if there is no solo traveller of the same gender booked to share with. We will check this before the final balance is due and update you accordingly.

Yes — Croatia is an excellent destination for hiking holidays, particularly for travellers who want mountain trails combined with Adriatic coastline and cultural depth. Dalmatia stands out: the mountain ranges of Mosor and Biokovo rise directly above the sea, giving hikers dramatic elevation gain, sweeping sea views, and access to medieval villages and local wineries — all within a short drive of Split. The season runs April to November, accommodation is straightforward, and the food and wine make rest days genuinely enjoyable.

A minimum of 5–7 days gives you enough time to cover multiple mountain areas without rushing. The Malduk 7-day hiking trip in Dalmatia is built around this sweet spot — five guided hike days across Mosor, Biokovo, and the Omiš hinterland, with arrival and departure days on either end. Shorter visits of 2–3 days are possible but limit you to one or two trails. A full week lets you experience the real range of what Dalmatia has to offer on foot.

Yes. Malduk Adventures runs a fully guided 7-day Croatia hiking trip based in Omiš, Dalmatia — covering Mosor Mountain, Biokovo Nature Park, the Omiš hinterland, and Marjan Hill in Split. All guides are locally certified, groups are capped at 12, and the trip includes accommodation, meals, transport to trailheads, and a guided wine tasting. The programme is also listed on 57hours and Skyhook Adventure for international bookings.

Absolutely — and Omiš is one of the best places in Europe to do exactly that. Based on the Cetina River, Malduk Adventures offers white water rafting, canyoning, and kayaking alongside the hiking programme. Many guests add a half-day on the river before or after their hiking week. The hub-and-spoke model from Omiš makes combining activities easy — everything departs from the same base.

For a guided 7-day experience in Dalmatia, the Malduk Adventures hiking trip covers five distinct trails: Mosor Mountain (9 km, 650 m gain), Biokovo Nature Park (7.5 km, 500 m gain), the Leopolda Mandica heritage trail above Omiš (5.1 km), the Borak and Podaspilje fortress trail with wine tasting (13.2 km, 600 m gain), and the Marjan Hill forest loop in Split (7 km). All based from Omiš, with no hotel changes. It's widely regarded as one of the most well-rounded multi-day hiking itineraries in Croatia for travellers of easy to intermediate fitness.

Accommodation is included as part of the Malduk Adventures hiking trip in Dalmatia — you don't need to book separately. We arrange 3-star apartments or a beachside hotel in Omiš for the full six nights, so everything is taken care of from the moment you arrive. If you prefer to arrange your own accommodation independently, Omiš has a wide range of apartments available through standard booking platforms, but joining the guided package is the simplest and most cost-effective option.
